As this part of the book starts, the entire Bingley family moves away and fricken Jane still thinks that her and Mr. Bingley are going to get married. She still has this thought in her mind that even though the whole family moved to London, that he will somehow come back and that everything will be happy. She even goes as far as going to London to attempt to run in to him "by accident", however this doesn't happen because he left. Then The Letter comes in the mail that once and for all proves that Jane and Mr. Bingley will be no longer. "Caroline did not return ... Let me hear from you very soon" (Austen 146).
Next we meet Lady Catherine and Miss De Bourgh. Up to this point Lady Catherine is my most hated person in the book. She is waaaaay to pretentious and haughty for me. I don't dig that at all, she makes me want to scream and cry most of the time when she talks. Especially because she sasses the life out of Lizzy and the whole Bennet family because she is "their superiors". The way Mr. Collins cracked her up, I thought she was going to be some kind of awesome, amazing woman, but no she's obnoxious. "Lady Catherine was a tall ... what he has represented" (Austen 159), this description of
Lady Catherine differs so much from that of the descriptions of the other characters when they are introduced. Her traits show power, as if she is socially and physically above all the other people that have been introduced to the reader. She is also consistently the center of attention as exemplified when Austen writes, "When the ladies ... till coffee came in" (Austen 160). Which is part of the reason that I find her super obnoxious and horrible.
(She even looks like a prude old lamo)

Of course, Mr Darcy shows up just when Charlotte and Lizzy are happy and nice again, and when it has just stopped being creepy that Mr. Collins asked out his cousin and the her best friend simultaneously. (It's actually still creepy). Mr.Darcy shows up because apparently his sister and himself have been associated with the De Bourgh's (of course), because they are all kind of pretentious and annoying:).
Next, Mr. Darcy keeps on popping up (he's definitely trying to flirt it up with Lizzy in some sort of sketchy old timey way). He just comes into random rooms when Lizzy is there by herself and awkward, not flirtatious conversations ensue. " He seemed astonished ... ladies to be within" (Austen 173). I think this has to be the rising action for Lizzy and Darcy because the book is almost over and I just would really like them to fricken get together soon or I will freak out. Darcy gets brought up in so many conversations that Lizzy is in. Even Colonel Fitzwilliam tries to talk to Lizzy about him. LIZZY TAKE THE HINT AND JUST DATE THANKS.
In the same conversation with the Colonel, he makes a social commentary about the connection of money to marriage at this time. He says, "Our habits of expense ... attention to money" (Austen 180). This is very satirical in saying that, Lizzy's family has little money to give her as she goes off in her endeavors of marriage. Money is so important in this time to those who are trying to marry. It completely dictates the relationships, how they form and what kind of social status they hold upon marriage. I also believe this is a comment on the large amount of money held by the Darcy's and the need for Lizzy to marry him because of this (HINT HINT).
