Ok,lets just start out with the fact the the first chapter of this is basically a soap opera. Darcy shows up out of nowhere with this letter after he professes his love for Lizzy and turns everything I, and Lizzy, though about him, Mr. Wickham, and basically just every relationship in the whole book. I actually started sweating while I was reading his letter to Lizzy I was getting so worked up about all the information coming to me all at one time. I was totally thrown when Darcy denounces everything Wickham made Lizzy believe when he says," His own father did not long survive... revered father's intentions" (Austen 195-96). I'm really unsure as to why Lizzy never thought before this that Wickham might be stretching the truth to the disadvantage of Darcy. Maybe, if Darcy hadn't been a complete asshat until he professed his love for Lizzy, he would not have been so severely hated for no reason.
(This was me after reading that letteotr.)
Lady Catherine is such a condescending jerk and I hate her with every ounce of my being. First of all, m'am I swear to God if sass Lizzy or the status of her family I will literally climb back in time and cut you. Also, I know this is a different time and everything, but she is the most helpless person in the whole entire world and her whole world revolves around men and servants assisting the poor helpless women. "You must send John ... you will be attended to" (Austen 205-06). She is by far my least favorite character in the whole book and every part containing her makes my cringe.
On a separate topic, I think the relationship between Jane and Lizzy is so cute. Since Lizzy had been visiting Charlotte and Mr.Collins, she hadn't seen Jane for quite a while. When she found out about the Darcy debacle, the only thing she wanted to do was to skedaddle out of the Collins residence and go home and tell her sister almost everything that happened. Sister Goals. Although, Lizzy chooses to leave out the part of the letter where he tells of the very purposeful sabotage of Jane's relationship with Mr. Bingley and how she was kept away from him on her trip to London to see him because they Darcy and Mrs. Bingley are jerks and try to intervene too much. On the other side of sisterhood relationships, Lydia and Kitty are some hormonally driven little craps. That regiment of men is in town and while Lizzy is gone, I'm almost positive that, especially Lydia, does nothing other than obsess and fawn over them. Icky. Not a fan. "In vain did... maker her resigned" (Austen 222).
Ok. so then Lizzy is waiting patiently to go to the lakes with her and aunt and uncle, who I really enjoy. However the trip gets postponed and they have to choose to do something other than the lakes. So, naturally, to improve the love story, where do they go? That's right, the home of the Darcy's. OWOW. Just kidding, Mr. Darcy isn't going to be home for the tour they will take. Oh just kidding again, Darcy is there as you would have guessed. Lizzy's feelings toward Mr. Darcy right now are so strange. They were so deeply routed in hate for so long, that now as his whole attitude and disposition have changed since his declaration of love, she is ultimately confused. I really hope that beneath her refined and reserved core, she really just wants to tell Darcy she loves him back. If that happens I will actually start crying and will hand back in a tear covered book at the end of the year. Sorry. For now, however, Darcy is being an amiable (the favorite and most frequently used word in P&P i swear) gentleman. Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner seem to love Darcy and give him nothing but praise in the time they spend with him.
Lastly, Darcy invites Lizzy to meet HIS SISTER! The young girl is portrayed as proud, however upon meeting her Lizzy realizes how shy and reserved she truly is. I feel like she is very little like Darcy at all. At the time when she meets Miss Darcy, Miss Bingley is also there and lets just say she is very salty towards Lizzy. She sees so easily the affection show from Darcy to Lizzy and is SUPER JEALOUS. She insults Lizzy's family straight to her face and then when she goes home starts to tell Darcy and everyone else how plain and ugly and badly mannered Lizzy is. M'am sorry you're jealous but kindly leave because you are intruding on the love. Thanks goodbye.
